Equinix: E-government will Push Forward the Digitization of the Business in Bulgaria

Zdravko Nikolov, Managing Director, Equinix Bulgaria, and Vladislav Iankov, Sales Director at the company, talked about the future of data centers and where Bulgaria stands in terms of digital transformation

“More and more services are being moved to the cloud, meaning they are not stored on the user’s device or even the business‘ premises. They are located in a data center”, explained Zdravko Nikolov in an interview with TechTrends (the content is available in Bulgarian). This is the first important direction that is pushing the data market forward. The other big trend is that “the tech giants are starting to gradually move into all areas of the communications business, including the provision of cloud services and even interconnection and data centers”. Thus, they require large volumes of capacity, high quality capabilities, at a very low cost. Based on these trends the interconnection business is growing exponentially around the globe. In Bulgaria many companies are yet to be fully digitized, Nikolov added.

But still not many of them “have come to the conclusion that more serious investments in IT should be made,” says Vladislav Iankov. He praised the software professionals in the country for their efforts in this direction – doing the impossible and managing to achieve pretty good results with fewer resources. “Integrating the Е-government quickly and properly will save a great deal of time and money, as well as promote the digitization of local businesses,” pointed out Nikolov. Bulgaria has the great advantage of being a strong connection point – а serious node of the so-called backbone cables handling the worldwide internet traffic passes through our country.
