Equinix puts into operation the second stage of its second IBX data center in Sofia

Bulgarian companies looking for fast, easy and reliable access to cloud operators and new markets will benefit the most

Equinix, the world’s digital infrastructure company, has today announced the commissioning of phase 2 of its second  International Business Exchange (IBX) data center in Bulgaria SO2. The current extension is $12M USD and this second phase will double cabinet equivalents of capacity in the site.

With the announcement of additional capacity, Equinix is strengthening its position in Bulgaria and the region while continuing to support organizations in the process of digital business transformation, providing them with interconnection with partners, easy transition to cloud technologies and access to new markets around the world. A population of over 300 million people can be reached from here. Currently, more than 16 petabits of traffic pass through the country – to Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Qatar, Iraq, Iran, Turkey, as well as numerous other destinations. A substantial part of this traffic passes through SO1, the first IBX data center.

Commenting on the expansion, Zdravko Nikolov, Managing Director of Equinix in Bulgaria said: “Bulgarian companies that are looking for fast, easy and reliable access to cloud operators and new markets will benefit the most from our services. From any Equinix IBX, you can reach any Equinix customer around the world through Equinix Fabric®, a software-defined interconnection solution that enables direct, secure and dynamic connectivity to distributed infrastructure and digital ecosystems. With the expansion of SO2, we are also pleased to be adding new members to the Equinix team in Sofia.”

Bulgaria continues to be attractive with its stability, technology and geographical location,” he added.

This second phase of SO2 doubles cabinet equivalents of capacity (CabE) and brings the total capacity to 700 CabE (equipment cabinets).

The building is covered by 100% green energy – a practice set by the first Equinix center in Sofia since 2016.

Equinix operates 248 facilities in 71 cities in 32 countries on 6 continents. It mostly serves companies with very high added value such as fintech, the pharmaceutical sector, the automotive industry, media content creators and many others.
